Well my favorite song of all-time is "Simple Man" by Lynyrd Skynyrd. So, i figured i would quote some of the song and give the class my opinion of what i think the lyrics mean.
Mama told me when I was young Come sit beside me, my only son And listen closely to what I say And if you do this it'll help you some sunny day.
Oh, take your time don't live too fast Troubles will come and they will pass Go find a woman you'll find love And don't forget son there is someone up above
the first stanza to me is saying...a kid is told by his mom to come sit and listen to what she has to say, like offering him advice. and she tells him to listen to her and if he does then he will live a good life. i am big on listening to my moms advice, so, the first stanza is relevant because i like what my mom has to offer me. this is the same type of deal here.
the second stanza is telling the child to live a life of his own and saying that trouble will come and pass, i believe that because no one can go through like without encountering problems. the mom also says to find a women and when he does he will find love. in the end donesnt everybody want to have a love or be in love? to top off the end, she reminds him that god is up above.
i think the whole song and lyrics have a very powerful meaning and if you have not listened to simple man by lynyrd skynryd then i would reccommend listening to the lyrics of the song. i like it also because trying to understand the lyics and the meaning is like putting together a puzzle.

Hey,
ReplyDeleteGood choice in the song. shinedown does a good job too but I think Skynyrd has 'em beat. I also agree with the whole listening to your mother thing.
